DATA SOURCES

Where PowerStatus data comes from

PowerStatus combines structured geographic data, map infrastructure and moderated community observations to explain local outage activity across supported places.

Each source has a different role. Community signals are informative and time-dependent; they are not official utility confirmation.

SOURCE ROLES

Three sources, three jobs

01

Geographic data

Imported GeoNames records provide names, coordinates, feature codes, administrative relationships and stable location identifiers used to build canonical place pages.

02

Map tiles

The live map uses the configured MapLibre-compatible tile provider. Map tiles help visitors explore geography and do not confirm a utility outage.

03

Community reports

People submit observations such as power out, flickering, partial outage or power restored. Reports are timestamped, moderated and aggregated into local signals.

UPDATES

How source data changes

Geographic records and publishing decisions change when canonical locations, regions or page quality are reviewed. Community activity changes as new valid reports arrive and incidents are updated.

Public pages use real content and status changes for their update times. A page view or cache refresh does not create a new data event.

LIMITS

What the sources cannot prove

PowerStatus does not receive a guaranteed feed of every outage, household or utility restoration estimate. A quiet area can reflect limited reporting rather than available electricity.

For official safety information, restoration estimates and service confirmation, use the electricity utility serving your address or the appropriate local authority.

COVERAGE

How to explore the data

Country, region and city pages use the same canonical geographic relationships as the live outage map. Browse a country hub to see published regional coverage, or open the methodology to understand how reports become local status signals.

Independent information

Source availability and geographic coverage can vary by place. Public pages make that context visible instead of implying complete network coverage.
